Things to Consider
Look at magazines to get ideas of the types of dresses you like and then pick a couple of shops and go and try some dresses on, this is the only way you are going to know what suits you, your perfect shape in the magazine may not be the perfect shape for your figure.
To find that perfect dress you have to start at least 6 months in advance, some designers require a year, so it is worth thinking about that special dress soon as possible.
Most dresses are made to order.
Each shop cannot carry every dress in every size and they need to be ordered from the factory.
Allow a couple of months for fittings and alterations with a week or two of the unexpected it usually adds up.
When you order your dress, you will probably be asked for a 50% deposit, check about cancellations and whether alterations are extra.
Can you afford the dress is it within your budget.
Does the style suit you and make you look your best.
Is the dress comfortable, you are going to be wearing it the whole day. Something too tight may split when you are dancing, or may feel more uncomfortable when you have eaten.
Let the assistant know your budget, so she will show you things only in your budget. You still have to buy all the accessories. Do not look at anything that is not in your price range, temptation may be too high otherwise.
Try the dress on, it should feel right and reflect your personality, try the dress on with all the accessories and see the whole effect. Make sure the dress flatters your figure, is well-made and is comfortable and moves with you when you move. Look at the back of the dress, your back is what the guests will see during the ceremony. Try on several different styles and take your time.
Do not allow the assistant to talk you into buying a dress that you are not 100% sure off. There are thousands of dress shops.
If you need alterations is the cost included.
Get everything in writing, the fitting arrangements, when the dress will be ready to be picked up or when will it be delivered. How much deposit you have paid, what the final balance is and when is it due.
