Sunglasses Protection Factors
UVA Protection
This is one of the most important features of your new sunglasses. They should block at least 60 percent of UVA rays which cause skin damage. The skin around your eyes is very delicate and good sunglasses will augment the work of your sunblock. Look for labeling indicating the UVA protection level.
UVB Protection
Harmful UVB rays can cause eye damage, eventually leading to such problems as minor as eye strain and as serious as cataracts and macular degeneration. Your sunglasses should block 95 percent of UVB rays. Check the labeling to make sure the shades make the cut.
Polarization
Polarized lenses cut down on the glare, so they are particularly good for driving, boating, or just being near the water. If these high-glare activities are on your honeymoon agenda, polarized sunglasses may be your best bet.
