Swimming in the Ocean
Never swim alone.
Swim only where a lifeguard is on duty follow the lifeguards instructions and any posted rules.
Never rely on flotation devices make sure you know how to swim.
Alcohol and swimming don't mix sleep off that mai tai before you take to the water.
Exercise caution when diving into the water there may be unseen obstructions, or the water may be shallower than you realize.
Pay attention to your body's signals, and leave the water if you feel chilled, overheated, or tired.
Avoid the water during a thunder or lightning storm.
Most hotels have flags to say when the water is dangerous to go into and when it is safe, look at this and only go in when the flag indicates that it is safe.
When swimming in the ocean, stay aware of your position in relation to the beach. As you enter the water, select a permanent landmark on shore perhaps a lifeguard station, or the tower of your hotel. Check and recheck your position in relation to that landmark.
