The Wedding List

It is traditional for everyone attending the wedding to give the new couple a gift. The gifts are usually household items to help the new couple as they move into a new home together. It is common for the bride and groom to create a list of gifts they would like. The guests each choose a different item on the list to buy so the bride and groom do not end up with two of the same items, unless they have requested it. Creating a list, makes things easier for the guests. To purchase a present, they have to select an item off the list. Usually the list has been created in a large department store where guests can purchase the presents over the phone, by post, or by the internet. Once purchased, the gift is wrapped, and sent either to the address of the guest, or to an address chosen by the bride and groom. Many stores will maintain the list for you, you just select the items you would like, give your wedding and delivery details to the store, and they will supply you with mini gift cards to include with your invitations. Each time a gift is purchased, the store will keep a record of who purchased it for you, and will take the item off the list. If you select items which make up a set, for instance a dinner set, you can instruct the store to deliver the set only if all items have been purchased. If only a few items from the set have been purchased, you can purchase the remainder of the items yourself, or use the value of the items purchased towards another item. Check with the store first to see if they offer this service. Letting the guests select their own gift can be done if you know they will communicate with one another to ensure two or more guests do not buy the same gift, otherwise you might end up with a kettle for each room of your home.
Store Accessibility
Some people still like to see the items they are buying for you, and like to collect it themselves. They then can wrap it themselves and give it a personal touch.
When selecting a store to hold your list, you might want to consider one with branches all over the country.
Another alternative is to select a store which allows items to be removed from their list at the request of guests. In this case the guest will leave their name, and contact information at the store, then purchase the gift from one of their local shops.
